AISI 304 cold-drawn hexagon, solution annealed
AISI 304 cold-drawn hexagon, solution annealed (EN 1.4301) is an austenitic stainless steel bar with a hexagonal cross-section, tight tolerances, sharp edges and a bright surface finish. Solution annealing preserves toughness and corrosion resistance, making it ideal for fasteners, fittings and precision components.

Campi di applicazione di AISI 304 cold-drawn hexagon, solution annealed
The cold-drawn hexagon in AISI 304 combines the geometric advantages of cold drawing with the metallurgical reliability of the solution annealed condition.
Cold drawing provides a controlled distance across flats, well-defined edges, good straightness and a finish suited to critical fits; this results in faster assembly, repeatable tightening torques and improved sealing performance in fittings.
Solution annealing, carried out in the austenitic field with rapid cooling, dissolves carbides at the grain boundaries, reduces the risk of sensitisation and restores ductility and corrosion resistance after processing deformations.
From a regulatory standpoint, the grade corresponds to EN 1.4301 according to EN 10088-3; stainless steel bars are typically also specified under ASTM A276/A479, while inspection documents according to EN 10204 3.1 ensure traceability. For the dimensional tolerances of bright profiles, including hexagons, the usual reference is EN 10278, with classes selected according to the design fits required.
In service, AISI 304 offers excellent general corrosion resistance in atmospheric conditions, fresh water and many mildly aggressive media; in the presence of chlorides or more severe conditions, it is advisable to consider molybdenum-alloyed grades such as AISI 316/316L. Weldability is good with the main processes, and pickling and passivation practices compliant with industry standards help preserve performance in service.
These characteristics make the 304 cold-drawn hexagon suitable for fasteners and fastening systems, fitting bodies and ferrules, precision mechanical small parts, components for machinery in the food and light chemical sectors, as well as pins and spacers where sharp edges and consistent across-flats dimensions are required. Supplies are typically available in commercial lengths, with the option of cutting to size, straightness and finish checks, and surface conditions ready for passivation.
