AISI 304 peeled round solution annealed
AISI 304 peeled round solution annealed (EN 1.4301) is an austenitic stainless steel bar processed by peeling that offers uniform surface, dimensional precision and good corrosion resistance. The solution annealed condition preserves toughness, weldability and microstructural stability.

Campi di applicazione di AISI 304 peeled round solution annealed
AISI 304 peeled round solution annealed combines the metallurgical advantages of austenitic 304 with those of the peeling process. Turning/peeling removes the altered surface layer and the inhomogeneities typical of hot-rolled material, improving roundness, straightness and surface quality; this facilitates coupling, assembly and subsequent precision machining. In regulatory terms, the EN 1.4301 designation and the delivery conditions are described in EN 10088, while stainless bars are commonly covered by ASTM A276/A479; for the tolerances of bright bars, reference is made to EN 10278.
The solution annealed condition is obtained by heating in the austenitic range and rapid cooling, with dissolution of carbides at the grain boundaries. This treatment reduces the risk of sensitisation, preserving corrosion resistance after hot working or welding and maintaining high ductility. In service, 304 offers excellent general corrosion resistance in atmospheric environments and in many mildly aggressive media; in the presence of chlorides and risk of pitting or crevice corrosion, it is advisable to consider molybdenum-bearing grades such as AISI 316/316L.
From a machinability standpoint, the regular peeled surface and consistent section favour stable chip formation with tools and parameters dedicated to austenitic stainless steels, reducing vibration and tool wear compared to as-rolled surfaces. Weldability is good with the main processes; pickling/passivation practices and control of heat input help maintain corrosion performance in the weld joint.
These characteristics make AISI 304 peeled round solution annealed suitable for shafts, pins, bushings, spacers and machine components, as well as equipment in the food and light chemical sectors, where a combination of precision, surface finish and hygiene is required. Traceability and test documentation according to EN 10204 3.1 are common in industrial supplies, supporting quality control throughout the supply chain.
